I just had to post these photos of Alessandra Ambrosio from Vogue Russia May 2010. She’s one of my favorite models, and these photos are soo interesting. I love the styling, her make-up is so dewy and understated and she looks amazing. Don’t you love them?!

I was on models.com and discovered some intriguing photos taken by Peter Lindbergh. In September’s Bazaar issue some of the classic models Amber Valletta, Shalom Harlow, Kristen McMenamy, Helena Christensen, Nadja Auermann, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer and Tatjana Patitz all went without makeup, excessive retouching or complicated styling.. they’re brave! Model Sasha Pivovarova, the face of Biotherm, balances work and personal life by painting and practicing kung fu.

You may not know her name, but anyone who has flipped fashion glossies for the past four years would have seen her face.

She holds the record for six consecutive campaigns for Prada. Last year, at the Chanel Fall/Winter haute couture show in Paris, she wore the veiled wedding dress, the final outfit before Karl Lagerfeld took his bow.

At 24, Russian-born Sasha Pivovarova — not Pivorova, Pivarova or Pivavorova, the spelling mistakes often made with her five-syllable surname — is an established face in the modeling world.

Married to photographer Igor Vishnyakov, she shot to stardom in 2005 after her husband sent photos of her to modeling agency IMG. In the same year, she opened the Fall/Winter Prada show in Milan.

Since then, she has appeared in fashion spreads in Vogue and W, and has worked with sought-after fashion photographers such as Steven Meisel and Patrick Demarchelier.

However, modeling isn’t the only thing she does. While backstage, waiting to go out on the runways, she is known to be busy drawing. Her passion for art was nurtured by her mum, who took her to museums in the Russian capital.

In March 2007, she displayed her artwork in Paris. She uses recycled paper and materials such as wine and coffee to create portraits of friends, including model Jessica Stam.

Last year, she had an art exhibition of her paintings at the Mansion Grand in Manhattan and donated the proceeds to help troubled children.

Question: Your husband is a photographer. Have you ever worked on a shoot with him?

Answer: Yes, my husband and I did a great cover for Officiel magazine. It was really fantastic to work with him.

Q: Before you started working as a model you had planned to become an artist. Do you still draw?

A: Absolutely! Fortunately, I get to travel a great deal and see so many beautiful places, so inspiration is everywhere. No doubt that’s why I’ve done so many portraits and landscapes.

Q: Who are your favourite painters or artists? Is there an exhibit or a museum that has particularly impressed you recently?

A: Gustave Moreau is one of my favourite painters, so of course, I like the Gustave Moreau Museum in Paris.

Among the things I’ve seen recently, I was really impressed by the Takashi Murakami show at the Brooklyn Museum.

Q: Do you think you might do something else later, after modeling?

A: I’ll definitely keep working on my art projects.

Q: What’s a typical day for you off the runway?

A: I have a big breakfast, feed my pets and then I exercise for an hour. After that, I go to my studio and work on my paintings.

Later, I meet a few friends for lunch, then I go to kung fu class or have a massage. I don’t go out in the evenings — I prefer to stay home with my husband and read or watch a good movie.

Q: What books are currently on your nightstand?

A: Books by German writer Herman Hesse and French writer Thèophile Gautier.

Q: Do you have any personal beauty tips?

A: Eight hours of sleep is very important for me. I cleanse my skin twice a day, I apply lots of moisturiser and I never sleep with make-up on.

I also drink lots of Chinese tea because it’s great for eliminating toxins. I do qiqong breathing exercises as well.

Q: How do you protect your skin from harsh conditions and too much sun?

A: I use lots of SPF 15 waterproof sunscreen. And I’m careful not to stay in the sun too long.

Q: If you have the opportunity to create your own skincare product, what would it be?

A: I would love to create an organic product that contains vitamins to keep my skin radiant.

Q: How do you stay in shape?

A: I practice kung fu several times a week with a personal trainer. Exercising regularly is essential to staying in shape.

Q: Who are your favourite designers?

A: Miuccia Prada, Giambattista Valli and Rick Owens.

Q: How would you describe your clothing style?

A: My personal style is very eclectic. I like graphic shapes and multiple layers. My wardrobe is really colourful and since hats are my favourite accessories, I have a big collection of them.

Q: After Elle McPherson and Renèe Simonsen, you are now one of Biotherm’s new faces. How does that feel?

A: It’s wonderful — I can really relate to the Biotherm spirit! Biotherm believes that beautiful skin is, above all, skin that’s full of life and that’s exactly the way I feel, too.

Q: What were the most memorable moments during the Biotherm shoot?

A: I loved the beautiful pink sands of Harbour Island, and the crew was incredible. The most memorable moment was luxuriating in a bathtub that had been set up on the beach and filled with milk — it was an amazing sensation!
