Alexa Ray Joel is the new face of Prell shampoo nearly 25 years after her model mother, Christie Brinkley, starred in ads for the hair product. The singer-songwriter has signed a deal to appear in print and TV ads for Prell while her music will provide the soundtrack.

Just one look at the picture above lets you know Prell made an outstanding choice

Alexa, 24, said, “I am so excited and honored to be named the new face of Prell — especially following in the footsteps of my mother, who was a Prell girl.”

A spokeswoman for Alexa added, “This is Alexa’s first ad campaign. It is for print and TV for spring and summer. We will also shoot a fall campaign.”

It’s great to see Alexa, who was rushed to hospital on Dec. 5 after swallowing a handful of homeopathic pain pills, in the news for something so positive.

On Dec. 31, she wrote on her Facebook page concerning “many exciting new developments for the New Year,” including “new creative projects” and working with girls to combat heartbreak-related depression.

Below are a few videos dealing with a subject near and dear to many: Looking more like Megan Fox – or at least copying her make-up. The second one isn’t even in English, but the make-up tips are so gorgeous, I had to include it!

Is it just me, or are make-up tutorial videos the most relaxing thing on earth. They’re totally addictive. Enjoy!

For radiant skin and a tingly little high, make the following facial mask and lose yourself for 15 minutes.

Blend 1 peach (pitted, skinned, sliced), 1 TBS honey and 1 packet instant plain oatmeal until smooth.  Pat on face and allow to sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and admire the gorgeous glow.

Refrigerate excess in an airtight container for up to one week.  One of the greatest things about home-made facial masks and other beauty treatments (aside from the fact that they work beautifully) is the fact that you’re helping the earth and all of its inhabitants by getting your green on.

That’s the best kind of beautiful.

From Makeup.com:
If you want your eyes to stand out on your wedding day, use a shimmer powder eye shadow. This type of shadow will enhance your natural eye color.
Before creating your bridal makeup look, take a warm bath to make you feel more refreshed. Use natural bath which relaxes tense muscles.

Then, apply your concealer, foundation and finish with a translucent powder to set your makeup. Highlight your check bones with blush, starting at the apples of your cheeks and working back to the hairline.

After you’ve applied the rest of your makeup, you’re ready to work on creating shimmery eyes. Choose colors that will photograph well, like a light silver or soft gold. Apply the gold shimmer eye shadow to your eyelids, and contour the creases of your eyes with a smoky purple. Finish off the look by sweeping the white shimmer powder on the brow bone of the eyes.

From WWD – EXPANDING FOOTPRINT: Forever 21’s legal troubles aren’t slowing down the Los Angeles-based retailer. Later this year, the company plans to enter the beauty and home categories. According to a spokeswoman, beauty and home merchandise would be first rolled out to Forever 21’s largest stores, including 15 former Mervyn’s locations, before entering Forever 21’s XXI concept. The leap into beauty and home follows recent Forever 21 launches of swimwear and plus-size apparel labeled Faith 21.

Teen superstar Miley Cyrus is always glowing, and her favorite make-up artist reveals the secrets to Elle Magazine.

How would you describe Cyrus’ typical makeup?
She likes to have her makeup natural because the few times she’s gone more dramatic, she’s had people tell her she’s too young to be wearing that type of makeup! But sometimes if she’s performing, I’ll give her a smoky eye. Depending on what she’s wearing, I usually like to do soft, taupe-grays—nothing too dark.

What facial features does Cyrus like to play up?
“She likes to play up her eyes and cheeks. She has amazing lashes so I never have to use fake ones on her. We just use lots of mascara. I’ll start by doing a couple coats of Mark Make It Big Plumping Mascara in Raven—it gives a really nice base. Then, I’ll finish with a couple coats of black YSL mascara for volume. The trick is to use a metal lash comb to separate lashes so that they don’t get clumpy.”

“For her cheeks I typically use a pinkish-brown cream blush and set it with a powder blush in a lighter, golden-bronze color. The cream blush shines through and creates a nice glow. Layering a powder blush over a cream blush is a good way to make your look last longer, just be sure that both blushes are from the same family of color.”

And how about Cyrus’ lips?
“I know she loves having something really nude on her lips—she likes this one Mark lip gloss called Glow Baby Glow in Secret. That’s one of her staples; she’ll wear it alone or on top of lipstick.”

Carmen Electra for Max Factor

On Thursday, Procter & Gamble announced that, as of 2010, Max Factor cosmetics will no longer be sold in the United States. The line, which is sold in 70 other countries, has become overshadowed by P&G’s Cover Girl brand, currently America’s most popular makeup line.

In some ways, this move isn’t just the end of a brand; it’s the end of a particularly American success story. The company’s eponymous creator was born Maximilian Faktorowitz, the son of a rabbi in Russia’s pale of settlement.

Apprenticed to a dentist at the age of 8, he later went into business selling wigs, makeup creams and rouges. When the Russian Imperial Ballet began using his products, he was appointed the official cosmetologist for the royal family and the ballet.

In 1904, Factorowiz came to the United States with a growing family and $400 in his pocket. Shortly after going through Ellis Island, he changed his name to the more Americanized “Max Factor” and began selling his makeup from a booth at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. A few years later, he moved his family to Los Angeles, where he developed the first makeup for screen actors. Unlike traditional stage makeup, Factor’s creamy greasepaint wouldn’t crack. In the next few years, he became the world’s most famous cosmetician; in the process, he coined the term “makeup,” and developed the first lip gloss, pancake makeup, and liquid nail enamel.

Factor also opened a salon that catered to Hollywood royalty, which then led to the development of his makeup brand. For years, the link between Max Factor’s consumer products and its glamorous ties to Hollywood guaranteed it a solid share of the consumer cosmetics market. Of course, research and development also played a part: in the years after Max Factor’s death, the company developed pan-stick, cover up makeup, and waterproof cosmetics.

Factor’s son ran Max Factor, Inc. until the early 1970′s, after which it was passed around from parent company to parent company in a series of deals. In 1991, Procter & Gamble bought the brand from Revlon for $1.5 billion.

Although Max Factor is a powerful, Horatio Alger-style success story, it is also a dwindling division of Procter & Gamble USA. While more than 50,000 stores carry Cover Girl, Max Factor is only sold in 8,000. On the other hand, the brand is very popular overseas, where customers in England and, ironically, Russia account for most of the line’s $1.2 billion in annual sales.

As the makeup of makeup artists leaves its adopted country, it seems worthwhile to ask if this is the end of an era or simply the next step in the development of global trade. Either way, it will be interesting to see if Max Factor becomes the makeup of (overseas) makeup artists!

Thanks to WalletPop for the info! Sad to hear about Max Factor moving overseas. They have great eyeshadow, I love the yellows / purples.

Keira Knightley

The eyes are the windows to your soul so it basically makes sense to make sure that you give the world the best view possible. The eyes have always been a key point in fashion and why shouldn’t it be? A person’s clothes and outer appearance has the ability to attract attention but it’s always the eyes that make you stare and want to get to know the person more.

With the eyes playing such an important part in one’s beauty, it then makes sense that a lot of effort is being put into ‘beautifying’ your eyes. Here are a few tips that you could use to give your eyes that extra glow.

Simple Tips That You Can Do At Home

Tired, droopy eyes are always a no-no and you can do something really simple to brighten your eyes. Don’t be fooled by the usual cucumber trick – cucumbers have a soothing effect on eyes that does not really last. You can achieve the same effect, even better, by popping a spoon into the fridge for a couple of minutes. Then place the spoon on your eye, making sure that you do not press deeply. Eyes are sensitive and the skin around them is prone to wrinkles so make sure that you handle your eyes cautiously. For a minute or two, just relax and let the cool spoon soothe your tired eyes and – voila – perky, expressive eyes in an instant.

You could also look for eye mask with gels in them. The concept is basically the same, just place the mask inside the fridge and once it’s cool enough, you can wear it and let it soothe tired, red eyes. This also helps you eliminate eye bags and those dark under eye circles. Of course, nothing beats sleep so make sure that you also get proper sleep.

Popular Eye Fashion

You don’t have to settle with just boring eye shadows anymore. You can use a variety of things to basically ‘dress up’ your eyes. From wearing false eyelashes, having your eyebrows tattoed or wearing contact lenses, there are so many options that you can choose from.

False eyelashes are popular these days and have been made to suit your needs. You can wear something that looks as natural and believable as normal eyelashes or you could choose to wear false eyelashes in more interesting ways. There are colored eyelashes, eyelashes with gems and stones in them and fake eyelashes in varying lengths and texture. It is very easy to wear false eyelashes now these days and with so many options to choose from, it is very easy to play around with them and see what suits you and your mood best.

Now you can also play around with your eye color. Keep people guessing about your true eye color and even surprise them with a few interesting colored contacts. Colored contact lenses that are safe for everyday use are popular these days. Just make sure that you take proper good care of them so you prevent any eye infections as well as make sure that these contact lenses last you a long time. If you are looking for something new in your look, wearing contact lenses might just be your answer. So go ahead, view the world in a different way now.
